Lately I have been buying up the four Michael Manring-cds that I didn’t already have which are Unusual Weather from 1986, Towards the Center of the Night from 1989, Drastic Measures from 1991 og Thonk from 1994. They stopping producing these and they can’t be found on iTunes either. As implied in an earlier post, Manring is possibly my favourite bassist, though others outplay him in virtually every other technique-wise aspect. What I love so much about Mr. Manring is his unparallel ability to communicate on a profound emotional level without worshipping melancholy for the sake of worshipping which too many seem to fall in to doing. Therefore he is very soothing and interesting to listen to. And if you are looking for some good pieces of music for your iPod, I highly recommend the songs Excuse me Mr. Manring, I left America, Greetings Earthlings, The light which puts out your eyes, Selene, Come with me my love and The book of living and dying, but as a general rule: get the two latest cds The Book of Flame og Soliloquy. You can never give Michael Manring enough praise IMO.

Anyway, I have discovered a new bassist who masters the previously mentioned form of communication to a far greater and more real degree, than you would normally encounter in a bassist (or musician), and combines it with a solid ability to compose whatever is on his mind. This is “Zander Zon” which he calls himself because his name is Zander and he plays a Zon VB4 bass. Zon, by the way, is the manufacturer with whom Michael Manring has worked closely and they are the ones who created his Hyperbass especially for him. It is very clear to me that Manring has had a great influence on Zander and not just technique-wise.
To put in perspective how cool Zander4724 actually is, I would say that he is just below Thomas Risell aka. MarloweDK (vol. 5), Jeff Schmidt (vol. 3) plus Hadrien Feraud (vol. 8 ) and above any other youtuber.
